The turtleneck revival.

In the cold weather there is no essential quite like the jumper to keep you warm. Every A/W variations of the classic knit appear on the catwalks and this season has marked the revival of the turtleneck, with designers like Céline and Maison Martin Margiela leading the revolution. A few months ago I was very anti-turtleneck but the a/w catwalks changed my mind altogether. Something about the sleek and over sized lines of Celine and the neutral tones of MMM just caught my imagination.

The high street haven’t disappointed in bringing this style to the general fashion loving public either. Just take a look at Topshop’s home page, there’s a whole spread on the turtleneck.

Bargain hunter.

Who doesn’t love a bargain? Finding something totally gorgeous at a fraction of the price is probably one of the most satisfying feelings in the world. If you’re anything like me you’re likely to be constantly looking for cheap and cheerful style (well unless you’re working on the Gothic trend this autumn that is). This means that as most shops declare their mid-season sales open, my style senses, as well as need for something inexpensive, are tingling.

Here’s a few of my favourites:
Topshop:

Canvas slippers - was £28, now £12.                           Pleated paisley skirt - was £32, now £15.

Urban outfitters:

BDG Half Coated Ankle Cigarette Jeans - Were £50, now £30
Tripp NYC Tie-Dye Pastel Skinny Jeans - were £75, now £35

Miss Selfridge:
Flower gem shorts- were £42, now £20.     Hank block heel sandal - were £25, now £50.

Newlook:

Black hounds tooth trousers - were,£19.99, now £10.

I hope you've all had a great Sunday, and remember that the weekend is only 5 days away!

Step in to the future.

Escapism through clothes has ramped up a notch this season with the beginning of the futuristic trend. Its left behind the general consensus that futurism means silvery space suits and skin tight lycra, and brought with it something altogether more sophisticated and empowering, with its inspiration spawning from the deepest realms of space and the technology revolution. Think sharp shoulders, metallic leathers and sci-fi imagery all wrapped up in one gorgeously fashion forward package.

Balenciaga led the way and set the tone for this trend, with movie poster style dropped shoulder jumpers, high waisted metallic baggy trousers, and crisp 80s style shirts in pure white. Colours were a mixture of muted and electric, including greys and whites with the brightest, almost neon, blues. These seem to be the main colours of the trend, with a lot of designers sticking to grey bases and brighter metallic detailing. Construction also plays a huge role in this style. Sharp edges and over sized shapes at Gareth Pugh and Hakaan are the perfect examples of futuristic structure this season.

Mary Queen of print.

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be in the same room as a dress designed by Mary Katrantzou, one of my all-time favourite designers. Ever since her s/s 2012 collection arrived on the fashion scene I’ve been following her catwalk shows, collaborations and the General beauty that surrounds her name. She’s quite simply the queen of print. So, as you can imagine I was rather excited for the big reveal of her S/S 2013 collection, and needless to say it didn’t disappoint. Whilst previous collections focused on the natural world used in repeating patterns and in the brightest of colours, this one took its inspiration from the humble postage stamp. It also veered away from Mary’s more classic shapes without losing the Katrantzou appeal. Tightly tailored silhouettes were replaced by cocoon shapes and looser fits, whilst the floaty dresses which have also become a staple of hers had the occasional collar. Overall the collection had a much more androgynous feel in comparison to previous shows, hosting a few rather gorgeous suits. Some of the designs even sported bowling shirt style sleeves!

The colour pallets were amazing and brought the feminine touch back to the collection that kept it in tune with her other pieces. The use of airy tones of blue and green made it perfect for the warm weather, even though it seems so far away at the moment! White bases also meant that colours stood out and made prints appear more delicate.
Mary Katrantzou S/S 2013:

The best designers produce collections that are developed from their previous one, yet still encompass their classic style within it. That's why I adore Mary Katrantzou. This collection is amazing, and one that I think definitely solidifies her place in the world of fashion.

Pixie Geldof in Khaki

Pixie Geldof is a socialite and a British style icon. She’s close friends with Daisy Lowe and Henry Holland, has modelled for countless high end runway shows, has been on the cover of both Tatler and Vogue, and is genuinely someone with whom I’d love to be friends. Her wardrobe is known for being edgy and on the pulse of fashion, whether she’s on the red carpet or in a muddy field at a festival. Maybe not everybody feels as passionately as I do about this fabulous lady’s style, but perhaps this will convince you.

Isn’t this outfit just perfect? I certainly think so. The khaki shirt dress, the skyscraper wedges, the orange touches; I love it all. There’s absolutely no denying that she’s a very on trend woman, who knows her style stuff.
Here’s how I’d get this look:

Topshop shirt dress - £49.99

Topshop Red chain belt -  £18

Topshop Suede wedges - £78
River Island Beige clutch - £18

 Topshop pearl chain - £30

What do you think of Pixie's style?
