Tell me about it, stud.

I know that I must have mentioned my love for both studs and gold in at least one of my posts before, so if you’re a regular reader, this next piece of news will be no big shock to you. I spent 4 hours on Thursday night studding my denim backpack, and it turned out absolutely fab. I used gold pyramid studs that I bought on Ebay ages ago. They took forever to come so I’ve been waiting to do this blog post for such a long time! In the process of customising my bag I cut my thumb and gave myself several blisters. Pain is beauty, right?

Here’s the transformation –

Denim and studs: the ultimate combination, don’t you think?

The plunge.

This Friday one of my friends is having a birthday party meal, and I spend at least an hour this evening trying to decide what to wear. I think I’ve finally made a decision but I’d really love to know your opinions on it. It’s a Topshop dress that I bought over a year ago in the sale and I love it. The only reason I haven’t worn it to death yet, and in fact not at all, is because it has a dropped back which I’m not really used to. Usually I’m quite adventurous with what I wear and putting together outfits that are completely different to ones that I’ve worn before, but for some reason this stumped me.

The fabric is a very basic cotton but it has a dropped hem at the back meaning that it fits like a glove and falls in a waterfall style cut. The main thing that like about it is the green embellishment which is very in at the moment.

So, what do you all think, should I take the plunge (literally)? Also, if you were to wear this dress how would you style it?

It's classically trendy for A/W 2012 (part 2)

This post is the second part of my autumn/winter 2012 preparation list. As I explained my last post when purchasing my autumn wardrobe I try to get a good mix of both classic and trendy pieces, and this is my comparison of the two. I don’t think I can explain much more since I did most of that yesterday so I’ll jump straight in.

The classic:

The trend:

Miss selfridge

Grey trousers go with everything, and that’s a fact. I especially love them because if you buy a pair in a cigarette style they work really well with boots, keeping toes toasty.

Topshop
I don’t think I could get through winter without my trusty knit jumper. It’s a throw on piece that never fails. Plus I adore the zip detailing on this Topshop beauty.

River Island

There’s no skirt like a leather pencil skirt. It’s elegance and lady like luxury mixed with the rough punk look that the leather provides. It’s simple but oh so effective.

Topshop

For a more trendy twist on the cigarette pant I think that these tapestry trousers are perfect. They are so luxurious and I would love to rock them with an embellished top and shoes to go for full on baroque glamour.

Topshop
I love Henry Holland, so the idea of having a winter knit with a dog tooth print much like in his A/W collection seriously temps me. It really is the pattern to wear, so this jumper is perfect.

Topshop

To nail the leather trend for A/W 2012 opt for a different, non neutral colour in either inky blues or deep reds. This Topshop skirt is very Alexander wang, and I love the more relaxed feel given by the elasticated waist.

What do you all think of autumn/winter trends this year, what's your favourite?

It's classically trendy for A/W.

As I start getting ready for the cold, wet, and windy weather (sigh) I tend to buy a few key pieces that will carry me through autumn/winter. I try to make my purchases a mix of both classic clothes and on trend items to add a seasonal change. This works really well as it usually means I don’t spend as much money and can pull together several different outfits dependant on situations and the ever changing weather.

Here’s my list of some classics and trendy high street beauties perfect for this autumn/winter.
 The classic:
 The trend:
£165 Topshop

The leather biker jacket is something that every girl should own in my opinion – it’s the epitome of autumn/winter classic. The great thing is that it can be teamed with jeans for a rock feel, or paired with a dress to rock it up a bit.

£32 Miss Selfridge
High waisted cotton shorts are so simple but for me work well in every season. I think that the tan colour is better for winter though because I’d be likely to be wearing black tights under them, and might look a bit dull with a completely black outfit.

£75 River Island

Feel free to disagree with me but I see the boyfriend blazer coat as a total staple (that I still need to get my hands on!) It would be a welcome addition to my winter wardrobe any year and I know that I would literally wear it all the time.

£65 Topshop

For something a little more current channel the military trend and rock this army jacket. Go with a pencil skirt for prim and proper with an edge or pull on your favourite skinnies with some chunky gold accessories. Plus I love the contrast sleeves on this beaut!

£30 River Island

Padding is huge right now, and I for one adore these black leather padded shorts. Another bonus is that they’d work really well as a part of the heritage trend or could, if worn right, be very gothic.

 £95 Miss Selfridge

Monster fur was huge during the a/w 2012 shows, and this coat is just jaw dropping. If I could afford to spend my money on something like this I really would. Make like House of Holland and un-belt the coat keeping it buttoned up, then just add heels.

I’m thinking of writing a few more posts like this one, so if you could let me know what you think in the comments it would be greatly appreciated.

Velvet crush.

In yesterday’s post I mentioned my absolute adoration for velvet. I just love the look of it, its texture and the way it makes me feel, it’s simply perfection. I own my fair share of velveteen items including an Urban Outfitters skirt, a pair of heeled Chelsea boots and a Miss Selfridge deep blue and lace dress, and I plan on wearing them to death this autumn. As the weather gets colder velvet style fabrics are brilliant because they look lovely and the majority of the time are really warm. Also if you’re looking to be a part of this coming season’s gothic or baroque trend, velvet is your go to fabric. Anyway, I’ll stop gushing like a crushing school girl and show you some of my favourite picks from the high-street.

Topshop:

Urban Outfitters:

 Newlook:

 River Island:

Am I the only one who understands how gorgeous velvet is, or do some of you love it just as much as me?

Baroque is back.

“Minimalism” is definitely not a term that will be widely used this autumn in terms of fashion. Opulence, exaggerated embellishment and a luxurious mixture of fabrics mark the start of this season’s baroque trend. Taking its inspiration from the rococo French fashion era as well as baroque, this trend is truly proof that fashion always comes back around.

Of course, you’re unlikely to spot layers of underskirt and extreme full length dresses on your daily trip in to town, but trust me when I say that you will notice aspects of this dramatic style come autumn. Embellishment and luxury fabrics will lead the way this time around, whilst the majority of cuts are simpler without losing exaggerated touches, making the look more suitable for 2012. Dolce and Gabbana had some of my personal favourite designs for A/W 2012, and the main focus of the show was extravagance in the form of modern baroque.

Luckily for us normal folk the high-street have also managed to create this look on much smaller budget without compromising the feel of luxury and opulence that’s needed.

River Island £40                     River Island £40

ASOS £75                                       ASOS £35 (tapestry)

H&M (A/W collection)                       Topshop £65

Considering my love for velvet, tapestry, and gold embellishment, I don’t think that this trend could be any more perfect.
